Knife crime awareness week |
||
|
Dear residents,
This Week is knife crime Awareness week .
Although this is not something that we see much of, knife crime is an issue and it is everyone’s responsibility to reduce it. The devastation caused by knife crime is preventable.
Within Selby and Tadcaster we have knife drop bins at the following locations.
Selby- Back Micklegate Car Park ( YO83GH)
Tadcaster – Central Car Park (LS249AT)
Knife bins are where bladed items can be deposited safely and anonymously, these will then be collected and destroyed by the police.
Those wishing to deposit a knife are advised to wrap the blade in either thick paper or cardboard and secure it with tape as a safety precaution. Once secure take the knife directly to the bin location and deposit it safely by dropping it through the hatch. We know it can be worrying to hear about people been injured or killed by knives but carrying a knife yourself doesn’t make you any safer and you can put you more at risk. A knife usually makes a situation much worse.
The reality is that very few people carry knives but if someone you know is carrying a knife you can report to the Police or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111
If there are areas where you live or spend time that don’t feel safe you can report this on a website called Streetsafe . The information is given to your local police who can then look at what they can to improve safety in that area.
If you have any questions please contact PCSO 5659 Dion Wood Dion.wood@northyorkshire .police.uk
